Listed gold and copper producer Philex Mining Corp. on Wednesday said core net income in the first nine months of the year fell by more than a third on lower metals prices in the world market. In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, the company said it posted a core net income of P1.479 billion, down 35 percent from P2.26 billion a year earlier. Net income – which takes into account the cost of doing business, taxes, depreciation, interest and other expenses – fell by 28 percent to P1.446 billion from P2.035 billion in the same comparable period. The Padcal Mine operations in Benguet milled 5.46 million tons of ore, yielding a 7 percent increase in copper output to 23.78 million pounds and a 2 percent increase in gold production to 72,905 ounces.
