Nintendo announces the Nintendo 2DS, foregoes clamshell design Aug 29th 2013, 02:00, by Calvin Know what comes after the Nintendo 3DS portable gaming device? Apparently, it's a downgrade in the form of the Nintendo 2DS which only displays 2D image, does not fold, but costs $40 less. The Nintendo 2DS will officially launch on October 12 with a retail price of $130, way lower than the $170 current price of the Nintendo 3DS. It will come in two colors: black with a blue trim, and black with a red trim. It looks like the Nintendo 3DS straight on with the familiar dual screens and button layout but you will immediately notice that it's not hinged. It still has two cameras (back and front) to take photos and videos. It will however, still be able to play 3DS titles as well as Nintendo DS ones. According to Nintendo Marketing Executive Scott Moffitt, the Nintendo 2DS is not designed to replace the 3DS but to get more customers on board their gaming platform with an attractive price. Besides, there are still a lot of gamers out there who are not fond of 3D games especially on a small screen. [Gamespot]
