The Commission on Elections (Comelec) just launched a website and a mobile app to help inform, educate, and empower voters for the coming national and local elections.
Actually, the site is more of a guide on what to do come voting time as the highlight feature is a simulation of filling a sample ballot in case you you don't know what is the proper way to shade the forms.
The web site also allows users to learn more about Comelec campaign rules and violations with a rather huge poorly-made infographic that would surely task the servers. With these information in hand, you can then report violations made by candidates to Comelec.
What’s missing? It would be nice if each candidate has a link directing to their website or FB Page. Or maybe a short bio or credentials or campaign direction for each of our senatorial candidates.
The website, if not down, can be accessed through http://report.mycomelec.tv using various devices such as desktop, tablets, and mobile phones via web browsing.
The mobile app version allows the same functionalities. At the same time, users can also use the app even in areas without mobile Internet signal by allowing saving of the report in the user's device and sending it at a later time once mobile Internet signal is available.
The Comelec's e-Leksyon 2013 mobile app is now initially available for iOS devices while the Android version for smartphones will be announced soon.
e-Leksyon 2013 website and mobile app were developed jointly by Comelec and Bitoopi, a group of young programmers from Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart). The team voluntarily developed and donated the service for Comelec's use. The initiative is supported by the Smart Developer Network, Smart's developer community program.
The Comelec aims to promote e-Leksyon during the run-up to the elections as a crucial voter education tool that will ensure a more meaningful voting experience for the Filipino electorate.
