Seagate just launched their Seagate Central, a storage device that delivers automatic backup for the entire home, and gives access to its content from any device in the network or outside of it.
The Seagate Central is a 2013 CES Innovations Honoree. This unassuming and simple-looking device has a mesh cover to give ample airflow within the disk inside. The only ports it has are the Ethernet port, USB port, and the Power port. The USB port can be used if you want to extend your storage by adding another external hard drive.
The beauty of this device is on the inside. The Seagate Central can be viewed as your network storage. You can dump files to it or you can have it perform automatic backups for your machines. It can be an ideal backup solution for your household.
With the Seagate Media app, the Seagate Central becomes your streaming server so you can watch videos, play music, or browse your photo collection using any iOS or Android device, or even Amazon's Kindle.
There's also an app for Samsung's Smart TV line so you can have an intuitive and simple UI to browse the contents off the Seagate Central. It is also DLNA certified and works with Apple AirPlay.
Another feature here is remote access which makes it your personal cloud. You can store or download files from the Seagate Central even if you're outside. Just visit the password-protected dashboard from your web browser to access your files. Or you can share links to public files to your friends ala Dropbox.
The Seagate Central Shared storage will be available next month with the following SRPs: Php7,350 (2TB), Php9,300 (3TB), and Php11,050 (4TB) at the Seagate Concept Store in SM Megamall and at authorized resellers.
