Despite the "aggressive" crackdown on piccolo, a type of firecracker banned by the government, it seems like it will continue to be among the leading causes of firecracker-related injuries when 2012 makes way for 2013, especially among children. As of 6 a.m. of December 31, 2012, the total number of New Year-related injuries was at 186, according to National Epidemiology Center head Enrique Tayag.
