A powerful typhoon maintained its strength as it moved closer to the Philippine Area of Responsibility Sunday afternoon, state weather forecasters said. In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the typhoon, internationally codenamed Bopha, was estimated at 970 km southeast of Hinatuan City as of 4 p.m., with maximum sustained winds of 185 kph and gustiness of up to 220 kph.
