Samsung recently launched a couple of their line up of Windows 8 devices and here we have the ATIV Smart PC. The Samsung ATIV Smart PC is actually a tablet, but with a keyboard dock and Samsung's S-Pen which they also use in their Android tablets.
The Samsung ATIV tablet comes in two flavors, the Intel Atom powered Smart PC and the Smart PC Pro which uses an Intel Core i5 processor. Both are 11.6-inch tablet but the Smart PC has a 1366 x 768 resolution and 5-finger multi-touch while the Smart PC Pro uses Full HD and can do 10-finger multi-touch.
This tablet comes with a Wacom digitizer pen Samsung calls S-Pen which has a 1024-level pressure sensitivity. To go with this stylus, there's a built-in S-Note Windows 8 app in this tablet. There also other Samsung-branded apps included which reminds us about their Android devices.
If you've used Windows 8 you will probably miss the Start button. Samsung clearly pointed out that they're the only Windows 8 tablet that comes with a Start button, located on a floating dock on the desktop. Actually, there are already free Start buttons apps online which you can install to bring it back to the lower left corner of your desktop.
The Samsung ATIV tablet is equipped with a USB 2.0 port (USB 3.0 for the Smart PC Pro), mHDMI, microSD and a couple more USB ports on the keyboard. It also has both a rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing one. What's odd is that the Smart PC has an 8MP rear camera while the Smart PC Pro only has 5MP. For storage, you'll get 128GB and 256GB SSD for the Smart PC and Smart PC Pro respectively.
The keyboard dock doesn't have any battery in it to transfer to the tablet although you can plug the the power adapter onto the keyboard to charge the ATIV tablet while docked.
Battery life on the Samsung ATIV Smart PC is rated up to 13.5 hours while the Smart PC Pro can only do up to 8 hours due to its more powerful processor and higher screen resolution.
The Samsung ATIV Smart PC and the Smart PC Pro will be available next month and will retail for Php35,900 and Php59,900 respectively.
